Renovated House for the Four-Member Đokić Family in Batulovce near Vlasotince

Single mother Snežana Đokić and her three underage daughters, who until recently lived in a dilapidated family home in the village of Batulovce near Vlasotince, no longer have to worry about how they’ll face winter with poor insulation and damp walls. The house has been renovated thanks to donations collected through the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation’s donation boxes at Nikola Tesla Airport, as well as the generous support of a donor from the diaspora, Jovica Spasić.

“We are grateful for the donation and the renovation of our house, so we now have a warm home. As a single mother, I wouldn’t have been able to afford it with my small salary,” said Snežana Đokić, whose house was renovated.

The girls, whose father recently passed away due to health complications caused by the COVID-19 virus, finally have a roof that doesn’t leak, dry walls, new bunk beds, as well as packages with basic food and hygiene supplies as additional support.

Jovica Spasić, a donor from the diaspora whose donation covered a quarter of the renovation costs, visited the Đokić family today. On that occasion, he stated that he has supported various humanitarian initiatives by the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation for many years and that this one is especially close to his heart because he is originally from this area. “I’m from southern Serbia, and it always makes me happy to help people who live here and are in difficult life situations. I hope this act of mine inspires other kind-hearted people from Serbia and the diaspora,” said Jovica.

Dušan Palašević, Assistant to the President of the Vlasotince Municipality, also joined the visit and presented the Đokić family with school backpacks and supplies for the girls and a thoughtful gift from the Vlasotince Tourist Organization for mother Snežana. “The Municipality of Vlasotince and the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation have successfully collaborated for over a decade on various projects, always to the joy of beneficiaries. We thank the Foundation on this occasion as well, and with the start of the new school year approaching, we joined this effort to bring joy to the children with school supplies,” said Palašević.

“This is yet another example of a successful initiative made possible thanks to individual donors who, over the past year, contributed to our donation boxes at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, as well as Mr. Jovica Spasić, whose donation covered a quarter of the total renovation cost. This action shows how, by working together, we can create hope for vulnerable families and for society as a whole,” said Dejan Drobnjak, Communications Manager at the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation during today’s visit. He also expressed deep gratitude to the management of Nikola Tesla Airport for the opportunity to place donation boxes there.

For 18 years, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation has been helping the most vulnerable families across Serbia through donations for home reconstruction or construction, and the provision of essential needs. So far, with the Foundation’s help, more than 750 families across Serbia have received a roof over their heads. In addition to humanitarian aid and promoting philanthropy, the Foundation also successfully leads community support projects as well as initiatives aimed at the economic empowerment of vulnerable groups and encouraging employment.
